This case study show how Volute approach the task of updating an existing drying plant with a new air disperser for improved plant performance. Both yield and product quality were improved.
The former air disperser caused low quality product due to burnt particles in the powder.
The solution to this problem was found using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations which highlighted that the root cause of the burned particles was the air disperser design.
In order to avoid the burned particles a new rotary atomiser and an optimised Volute air disperser was installed.
The atomiser is delivered by CMT who is one of Volute's close collaboration partners.
The installation and commissioning took 8 days including some on site fitting job. During this, training of the customers team was conducted in order to qualify the operators to optimise plant performance with the new air disperser.
Apart from improving product quality as required, it was possible to increase the plant capacity by more than 15%.
The conclusion is that the introduced changes has removed the burned particles, dramatically reduced payback time and postponed the need for building a larger dryer with several years.
We inspect and measure your current spray dryer and air disperser.
We manufacture local or at our Danish workshop depending on the project.
The current and new air disperser are simulated to quantify the potential gain from updating your air disperser.
Our specialists will join you on site for supervision during installation and commissioning.
Engineering of the air disperser to meet your axact needs.
In the period after a successful commissioning, we will be in close contact to ensure your full satisfaction.
